Adjustment of the retirement pension for disabled persons between ages 60 and 65
For persons who were deemed to be disabled between the ages 60 and 65, the retirement pension is reduced by 0.3% to 0.4% for each month in which they received:
- a retirement pension before age 65;
- a disability pension between ages 60 and 65 before January 2024.
When those persons turn 65, their retirement pension will no longer be reduced. They will therefore receive 100% of the pension.
Usually, the retirement pension is reduced by 0.5% to 0.6% for each month during which a person who is not deemed to be disabled receives it before age 65. The reduction is applied because the normal retirement age under the Québec Pension Plan is 65.
Eric's example
Eric has been receiving a disability pension since he turned 58. In January 2024, when he turns 63, a portion of his disability pension is replaced by his retirement pension. The pension is reduced for each of the 24 months during which he received it before age 65. It is also reduced for the 36 months during which he received a disability pension between ages 60 and 65 before January 2024. When he turns 65, both reductions applied on his retirement pension are cancelled.

Mary's example
Mary has been receiving a disability pension since she turned 50. In March 2024, when she turns age 60, a portion of her disability pension will be replaced by her retirement pension. The pension is reduced for each of the 60 months during which she received it before age 65. Her retirement pension is therefore reduced by 21% for life in total, that is, 0.35% for each of the 60 months. When she turns 65, the reduction applied on her retirement pension is cancelled.
