You are an intermediate or family-type resource

  • The Québec Pension Plan is a compulsory public insurance plan for workers aged 18 and over, whose annual employment income exceeds $3500. The Plan is funded by your contributions.
  • If you made enough contributions to the plan, we can provide you and your family with different pensions and benefits.
  • Your net remuneration as an intermediate or family-type resource is considered as income.
  • The months during which you received a disability pension without receiving a retirement pension, Family Allowance, Canada child tax credits or were entitled to an unreduced income replacement indemnity from the Commission des normes, de l'équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST) for at least 24 consecutive months are excluded from the contributory period.
  • Consult your Statement of Participation under the Québec Pension Plan to find out the amount of the employment earnings recorded under your name as well as other relevant information.
  • You stop contributing to the Plan when you stop working to retire.
  • If you are receiving a disability pension, you are no longer contributing to the Plan.
  • In order for an intermediate or family-type resource to remain entitled to disability benefits in 2025, the total of its net annual remuneration (after deducting expenses for an assistant or replacement) and any other employment earnings must not reach $21 594.
  • If you are working and receiving a retirement pension under the Québec Pension Plan, you must contribute to the Plan as soon as your employment earnings exceed $3500. Your contributions entitle you to an increase in your pension: the retirement pension supplement. As of age 65, if you refuse for your retirement pension to increase because of the supplement, you can choose to stop contributing to the QPP.
  • In all cases, you stop contributing to the QPP the year following your 72nd birthday.
